This is a private workshop I will be facilitating at a women's retreat at Camp du Nord in Ely.

To honor National Monarch Butterfly day I will be facilitating a monarch butterfly painting class. Each year on the first Saturday in May, National Start Seeing Monarchs Day raises awareness to preserve the Monarch butterfly and prevent it from being added to the endangered species list. The butterfly effect rests on the notion that the world is deeply interconnected, such that one small occurrence can influence a much larger complex system.

Description

Butterflies represent the possibility of renewal, reminding us that we can emerge from challenges revitalized and renewed.

For a caterpillar to transform into a butterfly, they have to allow themselves to turn in to the most glorious goop. If anyone tries to hurry that process or help the butterfly emerge, their lives are shortened and they don't get to live their full glorious phase of life.   A full breakdown of the woman you are in order to become the woman you're meant to be, in the next chapter of your life.

We can rush it, force it or deny it. Doing so, would impact the quality and vibrancy of the next phase, it would be like dishonoring the woman you were and the woman you are yet to know.

What if we all could enter this phase of life allowing the breakdowns, the reimagining and the gloopy, sticky mess? What if we saw, heard and felt it for what it was? What if we knew that allowing this mess would mean we emerged as newly formed women who would open our wings and fly!

Why is butterfly effect so good?

The two pertinent things that the butterfly effect teaches us is that small things matter, and we are all connected to a bigger system. Our action now, today, would have been the result of a previous action and this could in turn, lead to a future action. With one small gesture, you can change somebody's life.

What does the butterfly teach us?

In life, we usually get what we need, not what we want. You see the lesson of the butterfly is that after its struggle is complete, the butterfly emerges as a beautiful creature that adds wonder to any garden. After its struggle it does not come out bitter for what it has been through. Go find your army of caterpillars, those fellow beings who will honor and acknowledge you with love...those beings who know that 'this too will pass', while gifting you the time and space to just be YOU! You can emerge in your own time and in your own way, into a kaleidoscope of butterflies, flying free together!

Some ways that YOU can help save the monarch:

1) Plant native milkweed

2) Plant native plants

3) Avoid using pesticides
