May's full moon is called a Flower Moon to signify the flowers that come out in May. The days continue to grow longer, the warmer temperatures continue to increase, and Mother Nature is beginning to bloom.
May’s Flower Blood Moon will also be a total lunar eclipse. An eclipse of the moon occurs when the earth lies directly between the sun and the moon and the moon lies in the shadow of the earth. During a total eclipse, the moon does not disappear entirely but turns a copper-red color. This phenomenon is where the term “Blood Moon” comes from. There will be another Blood Moon total lunar eclipse in November 2022, the last until 2025—so make sure you put the dates in your calendar.
